MRS. BLOXTON DEAD

Mrs. Elizabeth Octavia Bloxton, aged 74 years, died at her home Sunday night, January 24, 1909, at 11 o'clock. Mrs. Bloxton had been in declining health several yars, but her death was sudden and unexpected at this time. She was the widow of William Bloxton, and before her first marriage to Michael Serman, was a Miss Stamper, of New Kent County. Three children survive her: Mr. Stamper Bloxton of Harrisonburg; Prof. Ashby Bloxton, of Cape Charles, and Mrs. L. D. Vaughan, of Charles City. The remains were taken to Providence Forge yesterday morning and laid to rest at Olivet Church, where are buried her husband and other relatives.

ELIZABETH was the daughter of JAMES STAMPER (b. 5 DEC 1800, St. Peter's, New Kent Co., VA) (m. abt. 1835, Middlesex, VA) (buried St. Peter's Churchyard, New Kent Co., VA) & ELIZABETH SCIANNA DANDRIDGE (d. 18 FEB 1845), daughter of BARTHOLOMEW & ELIZABETH CLAYTON DANDRIDGE. ELIZABETH's two younger brothers were: ROBERT & JOHN B. STAMPER. ELIZABETH was 1st or 2nd cousin to MARTHA DANDRIDGE CUSTIS (Mrs. GEORGE WASHINGTON.)

Both William and Betty are buried in what was Olivet Presbyterian Churchyard, now at St. Peter's (Episcopal) Parish Churchyard, New Kent County, VA. (There was some merging of the two church families that is causing confusion now about where they are physically buried.)

"Rev. and Mrs. L. D. Vaughan, of Montague, Essex County, where the former is rector of a church, were in town this week, having driven across the country for a distance of forty miles. They are visiting Mrs. Vaughan's mother, Mrs. William Arthur [Elizabeth Octavia] Bloxton, at Mr. Will Davis'." [Virginia Gazette, Pg 1, Vol 15, No 22, 19 October 1907]
