Son of Jozsef Kiraly and Maria Feke, born in Lelesz, Zemplen Megya, Hungary. He came to America about 1902, to Cleveland, Ohio. There was a promise of work in the America's and Hungary was in turmoil. Sandor had relatives in New York City that had told him of the opportunities in America. He settled in Ohio and became an apprentice in the automotive industry. This was the era of wooden carriages and Sandor worked building carriages. In 1904 he was almost deported back to Hungary. In Cleveland a man tried to rob him at gunpoint. Sandor grabbed the robbers gun and shot him in the leg. It went through the court system and it was determined that Sandor had the right to defend himself.
Sandor and Katalin met and married in Cleveland, Ohio at the St Stephens Catholic Church. They remained in Cleveland while Sandor finished out his apprenticeship. They moved to Buffalo, New York, Indianapolis, Indiana as he finished his studies in Engineering. After becoming an Engineer they lived in Detroit, Michigan where Sandor designed cars for General Motors, where he worked until he retired.
Sandor and Katalin then built a home in Stuart Florida, where they had mango trees in their yard. Sandor as a hobby kept records of all the Hurricanes from 1957 until his death.
While living in Indianapolis he was under the watch of the FBI, for possible Communist activity. The postal carrier had noticed Katalin going to the bank each day with a deposit. The postal carrier was told that the Kiraly's had bi-weekly meetings at their home at night. After the investigation by the FBI, it was determined that the evening meetings were other Hungarians that got together to talk about issues of Hungary. The bank deposits were contributions to help family members back in Hungary.
Sandor was cremated and his ashes were scattered at Piney Knob, the home acres of his son in North Carolina.
