Dorothy Elizabeth McGinnis was the daughter of Philip Joseph McGinnis and Elizabeth Matilda ("Lizzie") Miller. She married Frank A. Hanneman, son of Charles John Hanneman and Sena Hoppe, on August 30, 1921, in Denver, Denver County, Colorado. The couple had four children, namely:

Frank Kenneth Hanneman (1923-1957);
June J. Hanneman (1924-1937);
Dorothy Elizabeth (Hanneman) Summers (1925-2007); and
Lindy Charles Hanneman (1926-2003).
