John Chittenden, son of Nathaniel Chittenden and Mehetabel Beebe, married Rebecca Merrils on Feb 26, 1783. They had the following children:

John Chittenden served in the American Revolutionar War with Washington's Continental Army, his name being recorded on the muster roll as Private John Chittendan of Capt Aaron Stevens' Company, 1st Brigade of Brigadier General Jedediah Huntington, 7th Connecticut Regiment. The 7th Connecticut Regiment was organized on January 1777 at New Medford from Litchfield, Fairfield, New Haven, and New London Counties. The regiment served in the Defense of Philadelphia. The 7th Connecticut Regiment entered Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, in December 1777, as an unassigned division with 536 soldiers assigned and 358 fit for duty. The regiment left in June 1778 from Valley Forge with 869 soldiers assigned and 551 fit for duty, as part of Major General Charles Lee’s Division, 1st Connecticut Regiment.
