Funeral services for Mrs. Retta Mick, who died January 24 in a hospital in California, were conducted Monday afternoon at the Cobb Warner Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Eugene S. Ogrdowske of the Church of Christ was the officiating minister. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Fred Eckley, Harvey Eckley, Bob Anderson, August Berner, A. E. Bjornstad and Harold Frutchey.
Retta A. Mick, daughter of Elliot and Nettie (Harris) Weatherbee was born March 1, 1876, on a farm near Oelwein in Fayette County. At the time of her death she was 72 years, 10 months and 23 days of age
The family came to Clay County and settled on a farm southeast of Spencer.
In January, 1894, she was married to E.A. Shaul and they continued to live on a Clay County farm. One daughter, Mrs. Charles Lewis was born to this union and survives her mother.
On 1914, she was married to A.B. (Bert) LaBrant and they made their home for a number of years in Spencer. A daughter Ruth Virginia was born to them, died at the age of 19 months
Mr. LaBrant died in April, 1921.
She was later married to George Mick of Spencer. In November, 1943, Mrs. Mick sold the home on West First Street where she had lived for more than 30 years and went to California to make her home with her daughter. During the past five years she has visited here various times and with her son in law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis spent a part of last summer here.
Beside her daughter of Fontana, California, she is survived by two step sons, Ross LaBrant of St. Paul, Minnesota and Simon LaBrant of Richmond, Wisconsin and her aged mother in law, Mrs. Lee LaBrant of Reading Pennsylvania.
