He was the son of James Albert and Eliza (Furgerson) Poff. He married Rhoda Elizabeth "Mamie" Sanders in Lynchburg, TN on July 11,1878 and they had 4 children Josephine "Josie", Samuel W., John W. "Johnnie", and Sally. She died while giving birth to Sally. William Henry was introduced to Sarah Ann "Sallie" Hicks of Lynchburg TN and he traveled a days horse ride to marry her on December 27,1888. Their children where Elda, Leona, Ephroime Andrew, Lacey Leslie "Lace", Emma Cordelia, and Henry Lawrence. William Henry died on June 20,1911 from injuries sustained when a bail of cotton rolled off a wagon crushing him.
