Robert J. Abbadini, 90, of Waynesburg, formerly of Fredericktown, Deemston Boro, died Tuesday, August 13, 2013, in Golden Living Center, Waynesburg.

He was born January 5, 1923, in Vestaburg, a son of the late Joseph and Rita Retini Abbadini.

Mr. Abbadini was a 1941 graduate of East Bethlehem High School.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II, and was a member of Hanson-Cole American Legion Post 391, Fredericktown.

Mr. Abbadini co-owned and operated Abbadini's Bar and Restaurant in Bentleyville for 25 years. He had been employed by Jones and Laughlin Steel Corp. and later A.T. Massey Corp. at Vesta 5 Coal Mine. He later worked as supervisor of Labelle Coal Preparation Plant with more than 43 years of service, retiring in 1985. He was a member of United Mine Workers of America Local 762, having served in the past as president, secretary and treasurer. He was the UMWA District 5 official in charge of black lung cases.

He was a lifelong member and former usher at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, Fredericktown, and a member of Knights of Columbus Council 5826 of Bentleyville, 4th Degree. He was also a member of the Binnstown-Lowhill Lions Club.

He enjoyed painting, drawing and woodworking and especially loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

On June 28, 1947, he married Gladys Platter Abbadini who died November 26, 2012.

Surviving are two sons, Joseph Abbadini (Donna) of Cokeburg and Leonard Abbadini (Lou Ann) of Waynesburg; a daughter, Theresa (Teri) Hoyle (Jim) of Clarksville; 11 grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jerred, Lenny and Lowell Abbadini, Linda Donley, Lindsay Kozlowski, Lucas, Leah and Lauren Abbadini, Jimmy Hoyle and Jamie Carter; 15 great-grandchildren; one brother, Orlando "Lundo" J. Abbadini of Richeyville; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his parents and wife, are a daughter, Linda Abbadini, who died January 5, 1960, and a brother, Jerry Abbadini.

Friends will be received 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Greenlee Funeral Home, 42 Bank Street at Crawford Road, Fredericktown, where a blessing service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 17, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Oliver Plunkett Parish, Fredericktown, with the Rev. Paul Grunebach, as celebrant. Entombment will be in Greene County Memorial Park, Waynesburg.

Full military rites will be accorded graveside by Hanson-Cole American Legion Post 391, Fredericktown. In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial contributions be made to Hanson-Cole American Legion Post 391, Box 517, Fredericktown, PA 15333; or Golden Living Activities Department, 300 Center Avenue, Waynesburg, PA 15370; or Via Quest Hospice, 610 Park Avenue, Monongahela, PA 15063.
