Helena Dirks Voth was born on April 26, 1871 in Ostrog, Russia, and quietly departed this life Nov. 15, 1953, at the age of 82 years, six months and 20 days.
In 1874 when but a little girl, she came to America with her parents. They settled in Barton county, Kansas, near Pawnee Rock. there she received her schooling and grew to womanhood. On April 14, 1889 she was baptized by Rev. John Ratzlaff upon her faith and confession in Christ Jesus our Lord, having accepted Him as her personal saviour and was received as a member of the General Conference Mennonite church at Pawnee Rock. Later she became a charter member of the Ebenfeld Mennonite church at Montezuma.
On Feb. 23, 1896 she was united in marriage to Peter D. Voth, this union being blessed with eight children, of which one son and one daughter preceded her in death.
They resided for several years in Meno, Okla., Inola, Okla., and in Montana. In 1919 they moved to Montezuma where she resided until her death.
On November 26, 1939, after 43 years of sharing joys and sorrows her beloved companion was taken from her in death. She was a kind and loving companion, mother, grandmother, and friend, ready to help anyone in need. She was greatly concerned about the spiritual welfare of her family.
Mrs. Voth was blessed with good health to an old age and was reasonably active until last April when it became evident that she was failing. She was taken to a hospital in Dodge City where she recovered somewhat and was brought home to her children. She was admitted as a resident in Bethel Home, Montezuma, in September. During the last three weeks her health declined rapidly.
She leaves to mourn her departure, five sons, Ben Voth of Dodge City, Frank, Jake, Henry and Albert, all of Montezuma, one daughter Grace (Mrs. Jim Woodrow) of Pierceville, 17 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, three brothers, three sisters and a host of other relatives and friends.
