This stone is a cenotaph for John Leonard Beers and his wife Rebecca Jane St.Clair Beers. They are actually buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Gainesville, Florida. Leonard's parents, grandparents, sibling, an aunt and uncle and cousin are all buried here. After the death of Leonard's sister in 1993, his children and their cousins agreed to place a memorial in the family plot for future generations to find the three generations of Beers from Emporia together in the same cemetery.
