Died at the home of his son-in-law B.S. Stafford, two miles north of Gentry, at 4:30 a.m. Saturday, March 25, 1899, Mr. Sampson Fleming. He was born in Surry Co. North Carolina September 28, 1823. He came with his father's family to Platte Co., Mo in 1827; was married to Martha Cook in 1850 and in 1859 moved to Pottawatomie Co. Kansas. In 1862, not being in sympathy with the prevailing ideas and opinions of his community, brought about by the war, he moved back to Platte Co. Missouri, where he lived until 1891, when he sold his farm and located in Cass Co. Missouri., where he lived until April 1895, when he moved to this vicinity.
Brother Fleming was a member of the Methodist Church and had lived a consistent christian life for many years. He was interred in the Flint cemetery Saturday at 2 p.m.. Brother Z.W. Lindsey, our present pastor, conducted the funeral services. He spoke very feelingly of the deceased, reminding us that sooner or later we must all pass away to the unknown from whence no traveler ever returns.
These are solomn thoughts for us who are pushing our way along the busy highways of life, who will soon have to return to mother earth and render an account to the giver of all our acts and deeds while sojourning here in this temporary state of existence. Sister Fleming, Sister and Brother Stafford has the deepest sympathy of the Journal in their bereavement. They have the consolation that by living a just life here that in the final summons all will be united in that better world, where there is no sorrow--no death--no parting. These are glorious thoughts for reflection.
