She was the daughter of Oskar Aaltonen (1878-) and Sanna nee Kirppula (1874-1913). Both of her parents were immigrants from Finland. Her sister Wilma (1904-1913) and their mother were also killed at the Italian Hall. In addition to Wilma, she had siblings Louis (1904-), Waino (1906-) and Arne Oscar (1912-1992).
