He worked at the Royal Theater in Ardmore, Okla. and retired after many years of service as a mechanic in the motor pool for Sheffied Steel in Houston. In his retirement he enjoyed working in the voluntary fire department at Lake Conroe and was a lake patrolman for the county on Lake Conroe.
Later in his retirement he and his wife operated an antique business in Ardmore, Okla. He served briefly as a security guard for Memorial Hospital in Ardmore.
He moved to Bangs in 1989 to be near his daughter and son-in-law. He was active in church, serving upon the building and grounds committee for many years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Brownwood.
Mr. Mason was preceded in death by his wife in 2003; two brothers; and four sisters. He is survived by his daughter and her husband; two grandsons; three great-grandsons; many nieces, nephews; and friends in and on staff in the Twilight and Bangs Nursing Homes.
