RAPID CITY - LeRoy V. Denke, 76, Rapid City, passed away Saturday, August 13, 2005. LeRoy Vernon Denke was born Oct. 31, 1928, fifteen miles north of Quinn, SD in the Denke farmhouse. His Grandmother Sieler delivered him. He was the second of four boys born to Bethina "Betty" Irene Sieler Denke and Bernard "Ben" Denke. The others were Milton, Alan, and Duane.
LeRoy attended grade school at the Geigle, Eisenbraun, and Squaw Creek Schools. He attended Wall High School for two years.
He did various farm work for Emil and Ann Sieler, his uncle and aunt. LeRoy and Dorothy Jean Kjerstad were married Dec. 29, 1948.
They lived on her folks' farm where they farmed and ranched. LeRoy joined the Crescent Masonic Lodge No. 210 in Wall.
LeRoy and Dorothy lived in San Manuel, Arizona where he worked in a copper mine for a year. They moved back to South Dakota and Rapid City where LeRoy worked at Buckingham Transportation and Barber Transportation for twenty-three years.
They ran the 7-R Campground and Antique Shop near Hill City and moved to Rapid City in 1995, where they have since resided.
LeRoy and Dorothy were married fifty-six years. They have five children: Michael, Patrick, Mark, LeAnn (King), and Paul. All the children live in the Rapid City area except Mark, who lives in Thompson Falls, Montana. LeRoy and Dorothy have eight grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.
LeRoy has enjoyed coin collecting and playing the slots in Deadwood during his Golden Years of retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Milton and Alan; and one granddaughter, Tanya.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 15, at the Osheim-Catron Funeral Home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Osheim-Catron Funeral Home with the Rev. Jon Mapa officiating.
Interment, with Masonic Rites presented by the Crescent Masonic Lodge No. 210, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Wall Cemetery.
