Robert was born in Douglas, Arizona, on June 13, 1930, to Ruth Huish Beecroft and Irl Robert Beecroft. After growing up in Douglas, he moved with his family to Provo, Utah, where he attended Brigham Young University, graduating in political science. He fulfilled an LDS mission to Mexico. He was awarded a Root-Tilden scholarship for the law school at New York University and graduated with a J.D. in 1957. He married Emma Lou Warren of Cedar City, Utah, in the Manti LDS Temple during 1956. Robert taught law for one year at Boalt Hall of the University of California, Berkeley. He and Emma Lou then relocated to San Diego, where he practiced law for a short period of time. He then became a successful land developer and business manager in the San Diego area. He was active in the LDS Church and held many teaching and leadership positions. He was President of the Spanish Branch in San Diego; he and his wife rendered significant service to the Spanish Branch, as well as, many contributions to the Latin America missionary work during his later years. Robert Leonard Beecroft died of pancreatic cancer at his home in San Diego, California, on November 24, 2000.

Robert's survivors include: his wife, Emma Lou; his daughter, Robyn Ryskamp; and sons: Stephen, Warren, Regan and Collin Beecroft; his brothers: David, Mark, James, William and Joseph Beecroft; and sisters, Lenore Gordon, Sandra Allen and Vivien Robison.
