Who was born in Anderson Dist.
S.C. Nov. 15th, 1828
And was killed on Morris Island
July 14th, 1863
Aged 34 Years, 7 Mos., and 29 Days.
He volunteered in Capt. Cowans Co.
E 20th Regnt S.C.V. on the 27th
Day of December 1861,
And was promoted as Sergeant
For some Months previous to his
death he was a gallant Soldier
And was shot within fifteen feet
Of the enemies rifle pits his
Body was carried home by

The long roll will be herd no more
Your heroic deed in memorys shrine
Fresh and green shall live thro’ time
