THE TOMB

Died--In this city, July 7, Mr. Thos. Standish, aged 61 years.

Mr. Standish has long been a resident of this city and was well-known throughout the county. His death was quite sudden and unexpected, although he had been confined to his room for several days. At the time of his death Mr. Standish was the deputy of City Marshall Hamlett, his duties being confined to clerical work. In this capacity he also served under Mr. Hamlett's predecessor, Mr. Joseph Chinn. Mr. Standish was a native of Ireland, having been born in Glin, County Limerick, Christmas day, 1829. His parents were English and his father was an officer in the English navy. In 1855 Mr. Standish came to this country and followed the occupation of civil engineer. When the civil war broke out he joined the confederate army. After the close of the war he came to this city, where, on December 29, 1868, he was united in marriage to Miss Adelia Shewalter, who, with four of the five children born to them, two boys and two girls, survive him. His remains were interred at Machpelah cemetery Tuesday afternoon, the services being conducted by Rev. J.W. Keeble. His bereaved family have the most heartfelt sympathy of the entire community.
