He was sent to help defend the British Garrison
on Drummond Island at the start of the was of 1812. After the war, the British left Drummond Island & established a position at Penetanguishene, In 1828 While serving there, Fiegehen married Mary Ann Caton, They had 6 children. For his "Settlement Duty" he received 200 acres of land on the 13th Concession of West Gwllimbury.
