OBITUARY.

Died at the residence of his mother, in Laurens county, S.C., on the 29th of August, O.P. WRIGHT, in the 63d year of his age.
This startling announcement came with a shock to his many friends; although his health for several years past had been far from robust, yet his decline was so gradual that few realized his end was near. About six weeks before his death, he left his home near Jackson, Miss., and came out to Laurens, his friends thinking if anything would help him, a visit to the home of his youth would. He did not like being separated from his family, to whom his deep and touching devotion was shown to the last. Their forms seemed ever before him; though surrounded by an affectionate mother, brothers and sisters, his heart seemed to turn to his distant home, his devoted wife and fond, dutiful children. His touching and fervent prayers commending them to the grace of God, his earnest breathing of affection formed a scene worthy to be engraved on the heart with "a pen of iron and the point of a diamond". We do not use the language of eulogy when we say, he was one of the purest and best of men. Honest and upright in his dealings with all, he has gone to his eternal rest leaving behind a reputation without spot or blemish.
Ever kind and gentle, his children up to him as a parent, to whom they could always go for counsel, in tenderness and love.
His last moments, at his disposition, were calm and quiet; his spirit passed away without a struggle. All mourn his loss, but none so much as his bereaved family. They have many relatives, friends, and acquaintances who sympathize with them in their sad affliction.
