MOUNT NEBO - James W. Akers Sr., 80, of Mount Nebo, formerly of Charleston, died Aug. 5, 2002, in Fairfax, Va., after an extended illness. He was a retired salesman with the McJunkin Corporation. He was a graduate of Hargrave Military Academy and he also attended West Virginia University and Virginia Tech. He was a member of the Gilgal United Methodist Church, Mount Nebo. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two grandchildren, namely, James W. Akers III and Ruth Ann McIlwain. He is survived by his wife, Agnes Lewis Akers; daughters, Judith L. "Judy" Akers of Charleston, Janice S. Richmond and Jane A. McIlwain, both of Fairfax; son, James W. Akers Jr. of Cross Lanes; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren. Service will be 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden, with the Rev. Harold Francis and the Rev. Ron Saunders officiating.
