Laura Marie ANDREWS Born April 2, 1968 to Margie Ivan Andrews and John Richard Andrews in Syracuse, New York. Passed away at age 39 on March 3, 2008 in Seattle, Washington after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Laura lived in New York State in her early childhood and began school in Kailua, Hawaii after her family moved there in 1973. Laura attended St. Anthony's School, the Le Jardin Academy and graduated from Punahou School in 1986. She obtained a B.S. in Psychology from Santa Clara University in 1990, studied one year abroad in Vienna, Austria, and M.S. in Psychology from Boston College in 1995. She lived in Seattle in the early 1990s and moved back to Seattle in 2000, which became her permanent home. At the time of her death, Laura was a Human Resources Manager for the UTemp Staffing Program at the University of Washington. Laura was athletic and an avid runner from a young age. She was a member of the Punahou track team and enjoyed running throughout her life. She competed in many running events, including the Vancouver Marathon and the half marathon race was her favorite. She thoroughly enjoyed her running friends. While a fan of many sports, Laura was an especially dedicated supporter of Punahou, the Seattle Mariners and Seahawks, and the University of Washington Huskies. Laura was also an articulate intellectual and an avid reader. A member of several book clubs in her life, and she would always recommend a worthy read upon request. She also enjoyed food, cooking and wine, and freely offered a variety of 'the perfect thing to fix' for any day or special occasion. Laura was a traditional woman with classic tastes and values. She was passionate and driven in her beliefs, and challenged herself and others to be their best. Laura was spiritual in the best and worst of times. Her many devoted friends and lifelong friendships were a testament to her ability to affect deeply those who knew her well. In 2005, Laura met her love and life partner, Michael Martin. Mike and Laura shared a clever wit, a passion for life, sports, and each other. With Mike by her side, Laura fought an inspiring battle against cancer for two years. Laura's family would like to extend a heartfelt gratitude to Mike, whose devotion and perpetual, angel-like care of Laura during this demanding time was nothing short of extraordinary. Her family is also grateful to the dedication of Dr. Henry Kaplan and all of the doctors, nurses and staff at the Swedish Cancer Institute, Swedish Hospital and Bailey-Boushay House who cared for Laura. Laura is survived by her partner, Mike Martin and the Martin family; Laura's grandmother Rose Ivan of Endwell, NY; mother Margie Ivan Andrews of Boise, ID; father John Richard Andrews and wife Karen Studebaker Andrews of Honolulu, HI; sister Mary Givens and husband Dan Givens of Boise ID; brother JR Andrews and partner Danielle Ellis of San Francisco, CA, and many uncles, aunts and cousins.
