Longtime Sonora resident Marion Rose Merrihew died Jan. 5 at a Pleasant Hill care home. She was 88.

She was born in Sonora to Fred and Lucy (Silva) Pease and was a fourth-generation descendant of the Pease family, who settled in the Wards Ferry area in the 1850s. She was the third oldest of 10 children. She was raised in Sonora and graduated from Sonora Elementary School and Sonora High School.

She worked as a secretary for James Hardin and Urban Halliday.

Her hobbies included sewing and cooking, her family said.

She is survived by two daughters, Marlene Englund of Walnut Creek and Marcia Fernandes of Las Vegas; four grandchildren, Darren Englund of San Francisco, Brett Englund of Concord, Shawn Fernandes of Portland, Ore., and Danielle Fernandes of Las Vegas; four sisters, Dorothy Murbach of Pleasant Hill, Marjorie Merrick of Rancho Cordova, Wilma Marion of Jamestown and Vivian Peterson of Sonora; and numerous step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Merrihew, and stepsons, Darryl and Gary Merrihew.

No services are scheduled.

Tradition Care Funeral Services in Pleasant Hill is handling arrangements.
