--Martha Bechtel was born in the state of New York the 12th day of May 1820. When but a girl she moved to Mt. Vernon, Ohio and was married there on the *26th day of June 1841. In an early day they came to Van Buren county, Iowa, where they lived until the death of her husband about fifteeen years ago. Since that time she has lived with her daughter, Mrs. Frank Ohmart, of Searsboro. On Friday October 4 in company with Chas. Ohmart, she went on a visit with friends at Ames. On the following Monday night she was taken violently ill and the following Saturday she "peacefully fell asleep in Jesus." Mrs. Ohmart was with her mother till her death. On Monday the remains were taken by sorrowing relatives to Birmingham for interment by the side of her husband.

Ames Watchman.

The remains of Mrs. Martha Bechtel this week were shipped to Birmingham for interment, she having died here after a brief illness while on a visit with relatives near town.

SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Martha (Mizner) Bechtel was the mother of Grant Ohmart's aunt, Mary Ellen "Ella" (Bechtel) Ohmart. Mary Ellen Bechtel was the second wife of Grant Ohmart's paternal uncle, Francis Marion Ohmart. Francis Marion Ohmart and Grant's father, George Washington Ohmart, were brothers.
