Born in Lee County, he was a son of the late Heyward Lever Baker and the late Oline Barnes Baker. Mr. Baker was a member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was employed by B&R Lumber Co. and Bishopville Builders Supply Co.
Survivors include his wife of Bishopville; three children, Ralph Melton Baker Jr. (Linda) of Bishopville, Carroll H. Baker (Pam) of Irmo and Kelvin H. Baker (Lisa) of Bishopville; six grandchildren, Kerri Baker, Dustin Baker, Zachary Baker, Lauren Baker, Michaela Baker and Kathryn Baker; and two sisters, Sylvia Cederquist (Jerry) from Greely, Colo., and Mary Arrants (Homer Ray) of Bishopville.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Matthew United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Howell officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home and other times at the home of his son, Kelvin Baker, 54 Wild Goose Lane, Bishopville.
