A memorial service celebrating her life took place at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church Saturday, 10 August 2013, in Fredericksburg, Texas.
Her final resting place will be the Columbarium at St. Barnabas in the shadow of the Church that had been such a central part of her life.
Barbara was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, and grew up there and in Houston, Texas. She was a graduate of Lamar High School in Houston, Class of 1954, and a graduate of the University of Texas in Austin, Class of 1976, with a degree in Special Education.
She later moved to Fredericksburg and began her teaching career there, retiring in 2000.
Barbara moved to Arlington in 2010 to be closer to her family.
She was preceded in death by her father William Canada, her mother Esther Liscomb Canada, sister Judith and brother William.
Survivors are her sister Kathleen and children David, William, Suzanne and Robert, and numerous grandchildren.
Her lifelong calling was to teach and care for children with developmental disabilities, and thought of them as her own family.
She was a wonderful person with a great sense of humor, and a friend to all, she will be sorely missed.
