ASTC US COAST GUARD
PERSIAN GULF

Martin G Rothwell was a 24 yr Coast Guard veteran whose main passion was flying, especially gliders. Martin was killed when the glider he was in went down at the Jacumba Airport.
On the Rothwell side, Martin is survived by his wife Tracy, step-son V Paul Smith Jr of San Diego, son Jeffrey (wife Jessica) of NC, son Christopher (wife Claudia) of CA. Father Roger & step-mother Liz, siblings Stacy (wife Angela), Gary, Victoria. Along with nieces and nephews. On his mother's side, he is survived by his mother Lonnie, his "little granny" Lorine, uncle Alan (wife Cindy), aunt Barbara (husband Doug) and several cousins.
Martin was respected and admired by all who knew him. He was kind, calm, had a very innocent look about him, but could be such a rascal at times. Martin was very proud of his service to our country. Out of 42,000+ active duty USCG, there are only about 300-350 rescue swimmers. He was part of a very elite group. Yet he never boasted about or took lightly what he did. Martin was an amazing man, husband, father, son and brother. Thank you for being a part of our lives.
