Alfred J. Sattler, age 90, of North Liberty died Monday, August 5, 2013, in his home.
Alfred was born on April 22, 1923 in Roslyn, South Dakota to Martin and Anna Sattler. He was the last remaining child of twelve children.

In the late 1920s, his family moved to South Bend, Indiana, and lived on Indiana Avenue. He attended Oliver School for kindergarten and then moved to Greene School from first through seventh grade. He lived next door to Gladys Tetzlaff, who eventually became his sweetheart. He moved to Chicago and worked at Englewood Hospital as an orderly. In 1943, Al worked at a mess hall for the U.S. Army near Juno, Alaska.

He married Gladys Tetzlaff on May 8, 1948 in North Liberty, Indiana. After a short stay in Chicago, the couple returned to North Liberty and purchased a small lot by Gladys' folks' farm.

Al started work for Simon Brothers in 1950. They had their first child, Darlene, in 1950, and their second child, Nancy, in 1952. Al retired from Simon Bothers in 1985 after 35 years. Since then, Al enjoyed working on lawn mowers and shining his cars over the years.

After 65 years of marriage, Al leaves behind his beloved wife Gladys Sattler, two daughters, Darlene Wesolek and Nancy Kaser, one son-in-law Garey Kaser, five grandsons, Brian (Aubrey) Ginzer, Troy Ginzer, Jeff Kaser, Josh (Sarah) Kaser, and Jordan (Erin) Kaser, four great-grandsons, A.J., Macey, Grant, and Pierce Ginzer, one step-great-grandson, Sean, one great- grand-daughter-on-the way (Josh Kaser), along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by seven brothers and four sisters.
