Memorial services for Marvin E. Thomas of Grass Valley will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 30, at Calvary Bible Church in Grass Valley. Burial will be at Sierra Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Nevada City.

Mr. Thomas died Tuesday, July 19, at home. He was 80.

He was born Nov. 6, 1924, in Long Beach, to Eber and Beulah Thomas. He attended Pasadena Junior College. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1946, during World War II. He married Lorene Eggleston on Aug. 13, 1960. He worked as an engineer for the Los Angeles Fire Department for 33 years, retiring in 1979. He was a resident of Sierra Madre for a number of years, and had been a resident of Grass Valley for 25 years. He was a member of the Gold Dancers of Nevada County, Calvary Bible Church, Time Tithers and was a volunteer at Wolf Mountain Christian Camp. He enjoyed fishing, camping and water skiing.

He is survived by his wife, Lorene; daughter and son-in-law Kathy and Mike; daughter, Judy; son, Dan; brothers Robert, and Wayne; sister, Marj; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
