Eugene J. "Dusty" Glassman, 88, Hays, died Thursday, Aug. 4, 2005, at Hays Medical Center. He was born Oct. 7, 1916, in Victoria to Florian F. and Mary (Dreiling) Glassman.

He was a graduate of St. Joseph Military Academy in Hays. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served overseas, and was a recipient of the Bronze Star.

He married Marguerite L. Lesher on Feb. 15, 1942, in Hays.

He worked in maintenance at Marian High School and was the director of the Little League Baseball program for 30 years. In 1985 one of the Hays Recreation Commission's baseball complexes was named in his honor.

He was named an All American Citizen of Hays in 2002, was the recipient of the Point of Light Award at TMP-Marian High School in 2004 and was the grand marshal of its homecoming parade that same year. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joseph Council 1325 of the Knights of Columbus, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, all in Hays.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son, Steve Glassman and special family friend, Sally Duncan, Edgewater, Fla.; two daughters, Martha Lang and husband, Donald, Hays, and Linda Query and husband, Roland, Bird City; a sister, Sally Smith, Hays; nine grandchildren, Elise Davis and husband, Eric, Seattle, Lynn Krestel and husband, Knisley, Vancouver, B.C., Jill Mussman and husband, Darren Short, Seattle, Wash., Kim Burdett and husband, Jim, Longmont, Colo., Kelli Glassman, Wichita, Kendra Appelt and husband, Jon, Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Jude Lang and wife, Marlana, Topeka, Jessica Lang, Hays, and Jeffrey Lang, Hays; and five great-grandchildren, Bethany and Jayme Krestel, Vancouver, Logan Burdett, Longmont, Andrew Lang, Topeka, and Samantha Mussman, Seattle.

He was preceded in death by a son, Philip A. "Dugie" Glassman in 1986, a daughter, Mary Elise Milene, in 2004, three brothers, Dan, Robert and Florian Glassman, and two sisters, Chris Frank and Marietta Ruder.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays; burial in Mount Allen Cemetery, Hays, with graveside military honors by the Hays VFW. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Brock's North Hill Chapel, 2509 Vine. There will be a parish vigil service at 7 p.m. today followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to TMP-Marian High School in Hays.
