He was a 1961 graduate of Elbert County High School and an honor graduate of all his colleges. He had an Associate Degree from St. John's River Junior College, Bachelor of Science from the University of Georgia; Masters of Science from Duke University and a Masters of Theology from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
Mr. Dickerson served stateside in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a Baptist minister and served at Goss Baptist Church and Dove's Creek Baptist Church in Elberton. He was also a self employed physical therapist and owned Northeast Georgia Rehabilitation, Incorporated. He served as director of St. Mary's Hospital Physical Therapy in Athens from 1971-1977 and provided physical therapy services for Ty Cobb Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Systems for 20 years.
He was the son of Hermon Dickerson and Nell Dickerson Hendricks. He was preceded in death by his father. In addition to his mother, Mr. Dickerson is survived by his wife of 42 years, Amy Jo Canales Dickerson; a son, Lance Dickerson of Westminster, Maryland; a daughter and son-in-law, Angie and Jonathan Schnatz of New Castle, Delaware; and a granddaughter, Alexandra Rae Schnatz of New Castle, Delaware. He is also survived by a brother Neil Dickerson of Phoenix, Arizona and a sister, Brenda Jamison of Marietta, Georgia, as well as several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, October 12th at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Marshall Tribble officiating. The family received friends immediately following the services in the fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, a fund has been established for disadvantaged children. Memorials may be sent to Pinnacle Bank, Account number 20093233, P.O. Box 430, Elberton, Georgia 30635.
