He was born May 9, 1898 in Pleasant Grove to Ole and Rasmine Nielsen Anderson. He married Elizabeth S. Smith June 1, 1921 in Provo; in December they were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Owen was a school teacher and farmer. He taught in Syracuse, Milford, Bountiful and Mt. Pleasant, Utah and in Manchester, New York. From 1939 to 1947, he and his family served a work mission in Palmyra, New York. While there, he was president of Dairyman's League and branch president. He served in the bishopric of the Spring City Ward, was mayor of Spring City, and was principal of the North Sanpete Seminary. He and his wife served in the Manti and Provo Temples. In 1971-72 they served in the California North Mission. At the time of his death, he was Patriarch Emeritus of the Timpanogas Stake.
Owen is preceded in death by a son, Ernest, and six grandchildren. He is survived by his wife; three sons, and four daughters: Robert of Pleasant Grove; Margaret (David) Adams of Layton; Esther (Elden) Kimball of West Valley City; Stanley of LaVerkin; Stephen of Orem; Eileen (Vergil) Peterson of American Fork; Karen (David) Howard of Orem; 48 grandchildren, 107 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and six foster children.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 15, at 12 noon in the Pleasant Grove 11th Ward, 193 North 400 East. Friends may call at the Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, from 6-8 p.m. on Monday and at the church one hour before services. Burial, Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
