I recently ran across a book called, "Vigilante Woman", by Virginia Rowe Towle. A chapter in the book is dedicated to Electa Bryan Plummer and her husband, William "Henry" Plummer. It also mentions her marriage to James Maxwell. Per the book, Henry married Electa, June 20, 1863, at St. Peter's Mission (no other location given), after having murdered his rival, Jack Cleveland, who also was the only living person who knew of Plummer's murderous past. They were married only 4 months before she overheard him discussing one of his murderous plots with his crooked deputies. She decided to leave him then and was said to have returned to her parents in, Cedar Rapids, IA.
Electa married, James Maxwell, January 19, 1874, a widower with, at least, six children from one or two previous marriages. 1860 census shows a wife name, Louisa, born in NY and 1870 shows a wife name Christian, born in England. However, the 1860 census shows James born in NY, but the 1870 & 1880 census shows, Ireland. Electa and James had two sons, together, Clarence and Vernon.
