Swen and Lilly Johansson Magnuson, along with their three sons, George, Nils and Erik, arrived at Ellis Island, New York aboard the 'Philadelphia' on August 17, 1907. They had sailed from Southampton, England on August 10, 1907, having left their home in Forserum Parish, Jönköping lan, Sweden several days before.

Mr. Sven Magnuson was born in Lekeryd Parish, Jönköping lan, Sweden, December 20, 1876. He was given to the Lord in Holy Baptism in the Parish Church of his parents.
In the year 1902, he was married to Miss Lilly Amanda Johansson, nine sons were born to this union, and all survive their father. In the year 1907 Mr. Magnuson, his wife and three sons, left their native land to seek better opportunities. Together with his family, he located on a farm in the Carlson area, near Elgin, Texas. In his home six more sons were born.
In the year 1944 he retired and bought a home and located on a small plot of ground adjoining that of his son George. Mr. Magnuson enjoyed good health until the last two years.
He leaves to mourn his death, his beloved wife Lilly, nine sons; George of New Sweden; Nils of Carlson Community; Eric and Bertil of Austin; Rudolph of New Sweden; Vernor of Austin; Edwin of New Sweden; Hartwin of Manda Community; Howard of Kimbro community; 12 grandchildren, six boys and six girls; a twin brother, Gustav Alsen of Sweden and a host of friends.
Peace to his memory
Funeral Services were held Saturday, Sept. 18th from the New Sweden Lutheran Church at 3 p.m. and a short service at the late home at 2:30 p.m.
Mr. Magnuson was laid to rest in the family plot in the New Sweden Cemetery. Pastor Almquist of the New Sweden Church was in charge. Honorary pallbearers were; Mr. Holmberg, Mr. Martin Anderson, Dr. A.L. Scott, Mr. Henry Larson, Mr. Martin Berglund, Mr. Jene Hill. Active pallbearers were; Luther Berkman, Walter Berkman, Martin Berkman, Walter Gustafson, Paul Lundgren, Agner Young, Oscar Young and Elias Young.
