The Austin American July 4, 1960
J. Howard Gilbert, 54, of 3604 Bridle Path, died in a local hospital Saturday morning. He had been a resident of Austin for 33 years, was a member of the First United Methodist Church and market salesman for Oscar Mayer and Company.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. J. Howard Gilbert of Austin; one son, Gary Gilbert of Austin; his mother, Mrs. J.W. Gilbert of Austin; two sisters, Mrs. Louise Bunch and Mrs. E.B. Magnuson both of Austin; and three brothers, Hubert Gilbert of Pasadena, Jack Gilbert and Sterling Gilbert, both of San Antonio.
Funeral services will be held at Weed-Corley Funeral Home Monday at 5 p.m. with Dr. Marvin Vance, Rev. J. Leonard Rea, and Rev. Marshall Hampton officiating. Burial will be in the Austin Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers will be William S. Fehr, Robert Scheiffer, W.T. Mobley, C.M. Rogers, Walter Roberts and Lawla Lemens.
Honorary pallbearers will be the board of stewards of the First Methodist Church. Mens' Bible Class of the First Methodist Church and the Travis County chapter of the National Foundation Inc.
Those desiring to do so may make a memorial contribution to the Travis County chater of the Polio Foundation.
