On Jan. 14, 1920,
Mary E., age 5, were renting a home in Quapaw, Ottawa Co, OK with her parents, Jake H. & Eliza M. Eby, ages 42 & 28. Her siblings were James G., age 11; Elmer L., 9; Benjamin F., 7; Henry L, 3, & Francis (son), 4 months. Her father was self-employed as a Teamster to help support the family.

On April 11, 1930,
Mary, age 15, lived in Peoria, Ottawa Co, OK with her parents, Jake & Eliza, ages 43 & 39, who owned a farm. Her siblings were shown as Grant, age 22; Elmer, 20; Ben 18; Henry, 13; Joe, 12; Eugene, 9; Lela, 8; Gracie, 7; Fred, 5; Beulah, 3 years & 5 months; & Rosa, 2 years & 1 month.

Mary's father & older brothers were working on their farm to help support the large family.

Mary married to Michael Francis "Frank" Captain in July 1931. News about their marriage was published in the Miami Daily News Record on Thursday, July 23, 1931.

The home of Mr. and Mrs. George Captain was a scene of merriment Saturday night when a group of relatives and friends gathered to enjoy the bountiful supply of ice cream, angel food, devil food and banana cake. Announcement of the marriage of their brother, Frank Captain and Miss Mary Eby was made and congratulations extended. . . ."

Mary & Frank were living in Seneca, Newton Co, MO when she was admitted to St. John's Hospital. She had been there 5 days when she died from a heart related problem at 11:30 p.m. on May 14, 1942. She had lived 27 years, 11 months, & 9 days. Her husband, Frank, was the informant on her death certificate. She was buried May 16.

"Mrs. Captain Dies After Operation
Miami, Okla., May 15.- Mrs. Mary Captain, 27 years old, wife of Frank Captain, died at 12:25 o'clock this morning at St. John's hospital in Joplin following a major operation yesterday morning. She had been ill only a few days. Mr. and Mrs. Captain made their home 11 miles east of Miami.

Besides her husband, she is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Eby of Baxter Springs route 2; four sisters, Mrs. Lelia Ridenour and Mrs. Schubert, both of Quapaw, and Buelah and Rosie Eby, Baxter Springs route 2; and six brothers, Gran, Eby and Elmer Eby, both of Quapaw; Henry Eby of Seneca, Ben Eby of Camp Claiborne, Ls., and Eugene Eby and Fred Eby of Baxter Springs.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock tomorrow morning at the East Side Christian church, with the Rev. W.C. Shackelford of Miami officiating. Burial will be in the Captain cemetery with the Cooper funeral home in charge."
