Joy Gay Chapman, 74, of Ashland went home to be with Jesus surrounded by her husband and children Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013.

She was born Nov. 4, 1938, in Kingwood, W. Va., the daughter of Saylor Cline and Emma J. Smouse Albright. She was a custodian for the Assembly of God/New Life Community Church, where she was a member. Joy was an avid gardener and antique lover.

She is survived by her husband, Carl Ray Chapman; five daughters, Geneva Jean (Joseph) Trull of Warsaw, Janet Lee (Crist) Pryor of Galion, Bonny Ann (Joseph) Cadwallader of Nankin, Nancy Lee (Timothy) Prosser of Ashland and Barbara Mae (Daniel) Benner of Bailey Lakes; four sons, Donald Eugene (Donna) Cricks, Carl Ray Chapman II, Brian Keith (Linda) Chapman and Randy (Karen) Dobbin; 13 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Anna Mae Sherrill and Judith Ann Kurtz; a son, Dobbs Dobbin; and a brother, Andrew Cline Cricks.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013, at Fickes Funeral Home in Jeromesville with Pastor John Bouquet officiating. Burial will be in Chestnut Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, at the funeral home.
