Betty Rose Reuteler, 91, passed away August 1, 2013, at Lakeview Village of congestive heart failure. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ervin and Effie, brother, Bruce and sister-in-law Elwyn, her life partner of 45 years Nadene Pate, brother- in-law, Fenton Dowling, and three nephews. Betty was born in Kansas City, Mo., and graduated from Paseo High School in 1938 where she played trombone in an all-girls band. She then attended Secretarial School, working as a court stenographer while she honed her sport skills. She and Nadene moved to California with their much-loved Schnauzers for year-round golf weather. There, Betty worked for Orange and Riverside county governments plus for the Operating Engineers Union. They were joined by Betty's mother, Effie, when they moved to Sun Lakes, Ariz., for early retirement. Motorola expanded in the Phoenix area, so Betty and Nadene re-joined the factory work force while still winning golf tournaments. Betty also enjoyed bowling, tennis, biking, and softball. Betty and Nadene traveled extensively over the western United States in their motor homes. Betty relocated in 2007 to the Overland Park area to be near family living at Brookdale Place.
Betty was very independent and a great role model to young women both of her day and beyond. Her answer to anyone saying she couldn't do something was met with (sit back and watch me)!

A note from Betty.
I'm free
Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free; I'm following the path God laid for me.
I took His hand when I heard Him call; I turned my back and left it all
I could not stay another day, to laugh, to love to work to play.
Task left undone must stay that way; I found that peace at the close of the day.
If my parting has left a void, then fill it up with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh a kiss; Ah yes, these things I toll will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow; I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life's been full, I savored much; Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all to brief; don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me..
God wanted me now, He set me free.
