Elsie was born to Louis Dutel and Josephine Feray in Abbeville, LA.After graduating from Mount Carmel High School she worked as a stenographer for the Chevrolet Company in Abbeville, LA. She married Walter Blalock Mitchell in 1930. They had 2 daughters, Wanda Ray and Peggy Ann. After moving to New Orleans she worked for D.H. Holmes Department store in the Credit Dept. for 43 years. She later moved to Houston where she died from complications of Alzheimer's disease.

Elsie Dutel Mitchell, who worked in the credit department at D.H. Holmes department store for 43 years, died Friday at Westbury Place Nursing Home. She was 85. She was born in Abbeville and lived in Houston for many years. Survivors include two daughters, Wanda M. Porche' and Peggy M. Lewis; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. A funeral and burial will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Cemetery, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd.
