Hubert T. Marchant age 80 passed away peacefully May 16, 2000 in Salt Lake City of complications due to Parkinson's Disease.
Hubert was born April 4, 1920 in Cowley WY to Hubert Johnson Marchant and Amanda Tippets. He married LaVerne Chadwick March 9, 1941. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Hubert graduated from Cowley High School, where he was a talented athlete and valedictorian.
He was an active member of the LDS Church and held many leadership positions, including bishop of the Granger 9th Ward and as a member of the Stake High Council.
Hubert loved his family and always showed unconditional love to his children and grandchildren. His gentle pride shined when he saw them or heard of their accomplishments.
Hubert served in the United States Navy in World War II as a radar man on the Destroyer Escort USS Ebert in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theater of Operations. He was very proud of his service to his country.
Hubert had a long career in the Auto Parts industry, retiring only when the Parkinson's interfered with his driving. He gave his life to the service of others. He was loved and respected throughout his life.
Hubert is survived by his wife, LaVerne; two sons, Bill (LaNila) Marchant, Las Vegas, NV; Mark Marchant; two daughters, Mary (Luis) Hernandez and Susan Marchant, all of Salt Lake; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; brothers, Elloyd Tippets Marchant; Norman Tippets Marchant; and sister, Lillian Stevens. Hubert was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 20, 2000 at 2 p.m. at Holladay-Cottonwood Mortuary, 4670 Highland Drive. Interment, Larkin's Sunset Garden, 10600 So. 1700 E.
