Pearl, like her mother and sisters, was a school teacher in Mason co. area. she taught school for many years in the area. She and her husband also owned a general store in Custer.
Pearl worked for the Federal Government and was sent all over the United States. She first worked for the Works Progress Administration from 1935 to 1939.
By 1938, it served 327,000 high school and college youth, who were paid from $6 to $40 a month for "work study" projects at their schools. Another 155,000 boys and girls from relief families were paid $10 to $25 a month for part-time work that included job training. Unlike the Civilian Conservation Corps, it included young women. The youth normally lived at home, and worked on construction or repair projects. Its annual budget was approximately $58,000,000.
She worked on Mackinac Island during WWII having secret Federal meetings at her home. She also worked at the Davis Store on the Island. Many people did not know about the secret meetings which were held quit often. Being in the middle of the United States the government thought it was a safe place to have the meetings.
After WWII she was made assistant supervisor of the unemployment census which took her to Ferris College in Big Rapids. There she supervised the survey of 30 counties.
Next she moved to Mt.Pleasant to handle medical survey's for the Federal government.
When it was first organized she became the Director of Area One of the National Youth Administration. She was responsible for several NYA camps in northern Michigan.
Once in a while she would work as a reporter for the Mason county Press when in Scottville . Her brother Oren Eaton was the owner. She was a woman ahead of her time. She worked while most of the time her husband stayed at home taking care of their adopted daughter Jeanne.
She finally retired and moved to Chicago with her 2 close friends. Edgar & Nell Brayman and Tom & Florence Ford. They all lived in the same apartment building in South side Chicago. They got together often either going places in the area or playing cards, which they loved to do.
Later she could not just rest so she worked for the South Shore Library near her apartment.
