Doris returned to college and graduated with an associate degree in 1933. She taught school at Gary for five years and worked toward her bachelor's degree in the summers, receiving her degree in 1956. Doris served as county superintendent of schools in Hamlin County from 1937 to 1960 and then moved to Austin, MN, where she taught school for eight years and then retired from teaching. Doris later worked four years in the Kopet Music Store as a bookkeeper before moving to Arlington in 1974.
Doris passed away August 20, 1989. She is survived by two daughters, Irdene Bonzer of Hecla and Wila Mae Christensen of Badger; a sister Ava Anderson of Metairie, LA; 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and three step grandchildren.
Burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery at Hayti. Pallbearers will be Jim and Joel William, Lon and Kevin Bonzer, Robert Boadwine and Gerald Griffin.
