He was born October 18, 1926, in Elk Creek, Nebraska, the son of Albert and Emma (Rathe) Beethe. He graduated from Elk Creek High School and had lived for 9 years in both Hays and Clay Center, Kansas, and then for 16 years in Marysville, Kansas prior to moving to Manhattan, Kansas in 1988.
Vernon was a farm equipment salesman.
He attended First Lutheran Church in Manhattan, and was a member of the American Legion in Plymouth, Nebraska. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing solitaire and was a loyal Nebraska football fan.
On June 30, 1951, in Plymouth, Nebraska, he was married to the former Marlene L. Blauser. Mrs. Beethe survives of the home. Additional survivors include three children: Douglas Beethe and his wife Terese of Windsor, Colorado, Jana Beethe of Topeka, Kansas, and Lisa Acosta and her husband Raul of Dallas, Texas; one sister, Arleen Hall of Lincoln, Nebraska; seven grandchildren: Katie, Sara, Christie, Ryan, Blair, Cody and Mara; and one great granddaughter, Selena.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents and by two brothers, Alvin and Wilmer Beethe.
