Louis was the son of Fabian Bratina and "Mary" Marija Simonič. He married "Mary" Marija Kücko on June 23, 1923 in Steelton, Dauphin Co., PA. Mary died in 1939. Louis remarried Josephine M. Bakaric on September 6, 1943 in Steelton.

Louis and Mary were the parents of three sons: Louis John Bratina, Jr., William Martin Bratina, Sr. and Richard Martin Bratina.

Louis and Josephine were the parents of two sons: "Beans" Eugene Louis Bratina and David J. Bratina.
