Robert J. "Bob" Becker, 81, Topeka, died Saturday, October 27, 2007 at Midland Hospice House. Bob was born October 23, 1926 in Corning, the son of Ambrosia and Margaret (Ladner) Becker. He grew up on the family farm in the Coal Creek Community near Centralia, and resided in Topeka for the last 61 years. He married Francis E. Ligget in 1948. She preceded him in death on May 3, 1996. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed by Goodyear for over 46 years and was a member of Goodyear Rubber Workers Union. He retired in 1994. Surviving is a daughter and son-in-law: Debra and George Gallaway, Maple Hill; grandchildren, Tony Guy, Topeka, Dan Guy, Martinez, GA; and a sister: Marge Wichman, Colorado Springs, CO. He was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Terry Taylor; and his siblings, Floyd, Gertrude, Joe, William, Richard, Betty and Leonard Becker. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 2, 2007 at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Mr. Becker will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th, Topeka after 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, and family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, Kansas 66606 or Parkinsons Disease Association, PO Box 251, Topeka, Kansas 66601 or American Cancer Society, 1315 SW Arrowhead Road, Topeka, Kansas 66604.
