Kathryn Mary Christiansen of Red Wing died Wednesday, April 1, 1998, at Fairview Seminary Home in Red Wing. She was 96.
She was born July 29, 1901, in Pierce County, the daughter of Anthony and Lena (Bach) Beckler. She attended Rush River School. She worked for various farm families in the Ellsworth area. She also worked in various restaurants and hotels in Ellsworth.
She married Francis Schmidt May 7, 1924, and they moved to Red Wing. He died in 1978. She then married George Christiansen in 1981 and he died in 1986.
She raised a grandson, Rodney Schmidt. She then started doing baby-sitting for many families in Red Wing. She also did laundry work, cleaning and she worked at Fairview Red Wing (St. John's) Hospital. She enjoyed gardening, children, cooking and baking.
She is survived by: one daughter, Donna (Gerald) Kyllo of Red Wing; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded by: two husbands, Francis Schmidt and George Christiansen; one son, Jerry Schmidt; one grandson; one granddaughter; one great-great grandson; one sister, Agnes Beller; three brothers, Bill, Tony and Matt Beckler.
Mass of Christian Burial was Saturday, April 4, at Church of St. Joseph, with Father Thomas Walker officiating. Burial was in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cemetery, Ellsworth Township.
