Frank Kelso Dabney (1899-1980) was the son of Robert Kelso Dabney, III (1857-1912)(VPI 1876) who married Susie C. Brown (1875-1916) and lived in Dallas. Children were Robert Percy (1895-1966) who married Josephine Ludwig (1901-86); Louis Madison (1897-1935); Frank Kelso (1899-1980); and Virginius J. Dabney (1906-87).

Robert Kelso Dabney, III (1857-1912) was a descendant of Captain William Pope (1762-1852) who was born in Louisa County, Va. He lived at Montpelier, Powhatan County, Va. and served in the Revolution and in the War of 1812. He was Commonwealth's Attorney of Powhatan County, a member of the Virginia Assembly in 1812, and a correspondent and friend of public official and author William Wirt (1772-1834). He married in 1792, Ann Woodson (1774-1823), daughter of Charles, Jr. and Nancy Trotter Woodson, of Powhatan County. Their only child, Lucy Ann Pope (1793-1834), married in 1827, Robert Kelso Dabney (1787-1867), son of John (1740-1830) and Ann Harris Dabney (c1740-1838), of Appomattox, Va. They lived at Montpelier and were the parents of Judge William Pope (1829-94), Charles W. (1831-34), and Dr. Robert Kelso Dabney, Jr. (1833-76).

Judge William Pope Dabney (1829-94)(Hampden-Sydney 184_)(UVa. 185_) lived at Powhatan Court House. He compiled data for the original Pope history. He served in the 4th Virginia Cavalry (CSA) during the Civil War. He served in the Virginia Legislature and in 1872 was elected judge of the county court of Powhatan and Cumberland. He married Lelia Madison, daughter of Col. Ambrose Madison (1796-1855), of Orange, Va., and granddaughter of General William Madison (1762-1843) who was a brother of President James Madison. General Madison was lieutenant of artillery at the siege of Yorktown and brigadier general in the War of 1812. Judge William Pope and Leila Madison Dabney were the parents of Robert Kelso, III (1857-1912); Leila M. (c1863-); Julia Byrd (1865-1903); Percy Pope (1866-1935); William Champe (c1870-); James Madison (c1872-); and Ruby B. Dabney (c1874-). Leila M. Dabney (c1863-) married William Marshall Taylor (c1850-) and lived in El Paso, Tx. Three children were Leila D. (c1891-) who married James C. Nichols (c1878-) and lived in Carlsbad, N.M., and had James W.T. Nichols (1920-); Julia R. (c1895-); and William Marshall Taylor, Jr. (1898-1937) who married Bessie Copeland (c1909-) and lived in Hayden, Az., and had Marshall Taylor (1929-). Percy Pope Dabney (1866-1935)(UVa. Law 1888) was an attorney in Portland, Ore. He married in 1895, Ethel Linnie Crane (1874-1966). A daughter, Alice Madison Dabney (1896-1977), married Kenneth Albert Moores (1896-1976). A son, Kenneth D. Moores (1923-87), lived in Bainbridge, Wa.

Dr. Robert Kelso Dabney, Jr. (1833-76)(Hampden-Sydney 1851)(UVa. 185_)(W&M LLD 185_) served with his brother in the 4th Virginia Cavalry (CSA) and served in the Virginia Legislature. When the University of the South opened at Sewanee, Tennessee in 1868, he was the first professor of metaphysics and English literature. He died at Sewanee, and his students erected a monument to his memory on the University grounds. He married Nannie Maria Marye (-1887), of Marye' Heights, Va. One of her brothers was lieutenant governor of Virginia. Their seven children were John L. (c1857-), Marye D., William Pope (c1860-), Lucy Kelso (c1863-96), Cary Selden (1866-1906), Evelyn M. (c1868-), Nannie Cary (c1871-) who married a Selden, of Duluth, Mn, and Robert Dabney (c1872-).
