Inez' parents, Julius James and Elizabeth Jane (Hampton) Martin, and her sister Dolph, moved from Wasco County, Oregon to Umatilla County, Oregon, near Pendleton. Her sister, Lois Erva Martin was born here. They moved again shortly after Lois' birth, to Latah County, Idaho, near Moscow. The, they homesteaded a farm soutest of Moscow. Her other two sisters were born on this farm. Mildred Laverne born in 1983 and Thelma Lucille born in 1900.

Inez was somewhat of a tomboy. She related how she loved to help her father thresh grains, and drive the horse drawn machines.

Inez attended school in Moscow, graduating the 27th of May, 1904. She graduated from teaching school and was a school teacher until her marriage to Nelson Albertie "Bert" Crowe. His family had homestead a farm between Moscow and Pullman, Wash. – near the border of the two States, but in Whitman County, Washington. He was born on this farm.

Inez told the story of one afternoon, when Bert was courting her, on their way to a dance – all dressed up. Bert was driving his horse-drawn buggy. The horse had been grazing earlier and apparently had eaten too much of the wrong thing. The horse proceeded to raise his tail and "sprayed" the two. They didn't get to dance that evening!

Bert was on a grain threshing crew and during threshing time of the year, traveled all over the Latah and Idaho Counties of Idaho, and the Palouse, Washington areas. Inez went with him, cooking for the threshing crew. They lived in tents, and "trailers" what were wooden huts on wheels and horse drawn. Their children, Erva Maxine (born Dec 18, 1910) and Gerald Martin (born Dec 10, 1912 – both born on the Crowe farm), went with them most of the time. And they still were threshing and Inez cooking, when their third child, Mary Elizabeth (Maribeth) was born June 17, 1925. Pictures indicate she traveled with them also.

On June 8, 1931, a daughter, Maxine Rae Rowland was born to Erva and husband Lloyd F. Rowland. Marital problems caused them to send Maxine to live with Bert and Inez. Maxine lived with them from approx. 6 mo. of age, until she was 16 years old.

When Bert's father, Oliver Heston Crowe, died in 1933, he left their home at 215 South Lilly St., Moscow, Idaho to Bert. Bert and Inez and family then moved to this house. In later years, the address changed to 315 South Lilly St. In 1987, Maxine visited the sight of this house and found it had been razed, as had all other houses on this street, and an auto distributor is now located on this block, plus other businesses.

Inez did several things to help financially during these depression years. She was a seamstress, sold Avon products and cooked and baked for special occasions. She also worked as a relief helper in 1943 at the Moscow Hotel.

Both Inez and Bert were very active in the Moose Lodge. Joining in November 1936 at Moscow, they were members until their death. Inez was very active, advancing through the "Chairs" and attending several Moose conventions.

In the summer of 1943, during WW II, Inez, Bert, Mary and Maxine, moved to the state of Washington. Inez worked at Riley's Café in Kirkland, Wash. A month, while Bert sold the house in Moscow. They then moved to Bremerton, Wash., where Inez, Bert and Mary worked for the U.S. Navy at the Navel Torpedo Station, Keyport, until 1946. In 1945, Mary and Robert Burnett were married.

In June 1946, Inez, Bert and Maxine, moved to Hermiston, Oregon. Bert worked on the McNary Dam on the Columbia River. Inez sold Avon products.

In June 1947 they moved back to northwest Washington, buying a home at Port Orchard, across the Puget Sound Bay from Bremerton. Maxine chose to live with Mary and her husband in Bremerton, so she could graduate with the classmates of her Freshman and Sophomore years.

After Bert's death in 1950, Inez moved back to Moscow, Idaho where she cooked for a Sorority at the University of Idaho, during the 1950/51 school session.

In December 21, 1951, she married Emmett White, and returned to Seattle, Wash. (Emmett and Bert's sister Myrtle were married until Myrtle's death in 1950.) Inez's daughter, Erva, was operated on and being treated for cancer in a Seattle hospital, and stayed with Inez and Emmett during her recuperation. In 1959 she returned for correctional surgery which was not successful. Inez took care of her until hospitalization was again required and Erva died in January 1960.

In 1967 Emmett died, and Inez then moved back to Bremerton to be near her daughter, Mary and family. She lived alone, cooking and cleaning for herself until she was nearly 87 years old. She was then placed in nursing homes. She died June 6, 1979, and was buried beside her first husband, Nelson A. "Bert" Crowe and their daughter, Erva M. Owens, at Woodlawn Cemetery, Bremerton, Washington. She was 91 ½ years of age.
