via SAC from Jenny Crosson Sparrow (#47170190):
Rebecca Honour (Wilson) Crosson, my ggg-grandmother was born in 1832 in New Egypt, Ocean, NJ. She died on 6 Sep 1899 in Cream Ridge, Monmouth, NJ. She is considered to be the daughter of Alfred (also found spelt as Alphred) Wilson. She was believed to have been a "full-blooded Indian girl" and took the name of Wilson as her surname. Her exact parentage is unknown. Her Native American ancestry was confirmed in a DNA test of her great-grandson GLC Jr., whose other ancestors were confirmed through documentation to have come from Ireland and England. Her Bible (a protestant version) is in possession of her great-great-grandchildren. In it, she documents her marriage to Michael Crosson (1822-1903) in 1853 and the birth of 10 children: John Alfred (1854), Owen (1856), Michael (1858), Catharine Ann "Kate" (1860), George Wilson (1862), Mary Anna "Mame" (1864), Rebecca W. (1867), George W. (1869), Elizabeth M. "Lizzie" (1871) and Joseph (1875). Another popular rumor was that she was related to the first LDS (Mormon) prophet Joseph Smith Jr. and had even become a Mormon herself. The relation to Joseph Smith is false and there has been no record of a (living) LDS baptism found for her. However, it has been discovered that her father Alfred Wilson converted to the LDS faith and represented a branch of the church in Cream Ridge, NJ and another in Toms River, NJ. This is probably where the "Mormon connection" rumor originated. Research of this individual was conducted by her great-grandson George Leon Crosson Jr. (68111956) and continued by her ggg-granddaughter Jenny Crosson Sparrow (47170190).
