Charles N. "Bud" Buchanan, 68, of Chadbourne Ridge Road died at his home Sunday following a lengthy illness.

He was born in Malden, MA, a son of John and Edna (nee Dyment) Buchanan, attended Malden schools and served in the Army before returning to the Malden and Saugus area, where he lived for most of his life.

In 1952, he married Elizabeth Konczal.

He was employed by the former Worcester Paper Box Co., New England Coal and Coke in Charlestown and Northland Industrial Truck in Wilmington, all in Massachusetts. He retired because of ill health in 1977. In 1983, he moved to North Waterboro.

Mr. Buchanan attended the North Waterboro Community Baptist Church. He was a Little League coach and was active in youth programs in Saugus. He enjoyed bowling, winter sports and playing practical jokes.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, John of Saugus, MA, and Edward of Everett, MA; a daughter, Mary Ellen Monico of Saugus; a brother, Norman of Phoenix; a sister, Marie Sousa of Malden; and three step-grandsons.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the North Waterboro Community Baptist Church. The Rev. Chandler Holmes will officiate.

Following cremation, burial will be in Elder Grey Cemetery, North Waterboro. Arrangements are by the Heald Funeral Home, Springvale.
