Mrs. Amelia Godby, wife of Mr. R.W. Godby, and a former resident of Norfolk, departed this life at her home in Phoebus, Va., at 3:30 o'clock yesterday morning, after a lingering illness, aged about 42 years. The deceased was formerly a Mrs. Hitchings, and leaves three children by her first husband, two sons and one daughter. She was for many years a member of Cumberland Street M. E. Church, this city, and died as she had lived, in the full triumph of faith. Her remains will reach here by the Old Dominion steamer at 8 o'clock this morning, and the funeral will be conducted by Rev. H. E. Johnson at the grave in one of the cemeteries. The pall-bearers will be selected from the church

She was born in Suffolk, Nansemond County, VA and died in Phoebus, Elizabeth City County, VA. However, these counties and the town of Phoebus no longer officially exist. So Find-a-grave does not recognize them.

She married Virginius Alexander Hitchings, Sr. on Aug 4, 1875 in Norfolk, VA.

She married Robert William Godby on Feb 12, 1898 in Norfolk, VA.
