Mr. Carter, a native of Jonesville, had retired from B.F. Shaw Construction Co., as a pipe fitter. He had served in the Navy, was a craft maker and a member of Plumbers and Steamfitters Local Union No. 150. Mr. Carter was a member of Gloverville First Baptist Church, and he had served as a deacon, a Sunday school teacher and an interim music director at several other churches.
Survivors include his wife, Joan White Carter; two sons, Rick Carter, Aiken, and Ron Carter, Okinawa, Japan; three daughters, Kathy C. Shreves, North Augusta, Loutricia C. Stephens, Greenwood, and Joyce C. Hunter, Dalzell; two sisters, EnaVearl Shirley, Greenville, and Adilean Bissell, Pawley's Island; a brother, Victor Carter, Walhalla; and eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
